Free Online Homeschool Resources
Sooo many free options exist now-a-days for homeschoolers that you could literally teach your kiddos for zero dollars if you wanted to. Or, you can easily supplement whatever it is you are doing. Check out some of my favorite free, online homeschool resources.
If you see something missing, comment with any other free, online resources you feel should have made the list.
While you are at it, check out my free online Spanish learning page. You will find a lot of great Spanish resources.
Not only do they have TONS of learning games, the geography section tops my list. I LOVE geography, but even if I didn’t, we would still be doing this. My kiddos learned all the states in record time (without any help from me). They have moved on to master the European countries and Africa (stay tuned for a newly converted game). They can quickly and easily learn place names, continents, rivers, oceans, and regions so you have time to teach geographical concepts and other important features.
Free typing lessons? Yes, please! These are simple, self-explanatory and easy for kids to do on their own. If they struggle to learn the home row, I simply have them repeat lessons!
If I wasn’t doing what I’m already doing, I would do all of this.
If that makes any sense.
Replete with TONS of resources, booklists, methods, ideas, and as they say, “an archive of wisdom”. Every homeschool mom should pop on here to read articles, freshen up on why we do what we do, and find some great resources and booklists along the way.
If you aren’t collecting booklists yet, start now. Having books around encourages children to read, and us to read to our children. But not just any books, we want to choose wholesome, good, moral, educational books that will teach and entice our children to want to read more. The Good and the Beautiful offers a free well-put together booklist by reading level with explanations and ratings for each book. This is a great place to start. We also love the Good & the Beautiful storytime for younger children as their first audiobooks.
All of my children have an audiobook they are currently listening to. They beg to listen. My son abandons my phone in the yard as he plays with headphones on. Once a kid gets hooked on audiobooks, there is no going back!
I can’t begin to tell you how much children learn from listening to quality reading. Good thing this is a FREE public domain audiobook list!
Some of our favorites are This Country of Ours (perfect for learning U.S. History), Black Beauty, anything by Thornton W. Burgess, My Father’s Dragon, and Beatrix Potter.
Does your kiddo need extra practice with a specific skill? Here you go! You will find simple, straight forward practice to supplement when your child just needs that extra help.
Want free quality piano lessons for kids? The short, easy lessons teach piano in a fun way. We use Hoffman A LOT. The lessons gently introduce piano, are interesting, and can be done independently. Kids also love learning their popular songs at their own pace.
Take your kids on a field trip…online! Explore the leaning tower of Pisa, the Van Gogh Museum, or historical sites in Rome. A great resource to supplement your history or geography lessons. A quick warning though…children could quickly find themselves on a naked Frida Kahlo painting or something similar if they aren’t careful. You may want to preview first!
A fun game that also practices grade-level math skills. My kids BEG to do prodigy. The program adapts to the child’s ability levels, so if they get an answer wrong, practice continues on that skill. A paid version exists with more options and features.
Homeschool your child exclusively online for free. Or pop on here for ideas, use just one subject or one year, or find great ideas. Whatever you choose, this a great website to have your your back pocket (so-to-speak).
Science, language arts, history and more. Search and find videos, articles, pictures, source materials and many other great tools and resources. Create your own collection of resources or search and use someone else’s creation. This is a wonderful supplement to core subjects, a way to dive deeper into ideas brought up in reading, and also a great way to answer those in-depth questions that children like to ask. You can create a whole lesson on it!
Unless you live under a rock, you have already heard of google earth. But, have you thought about using it in your homeschool? When we learned about the pyramids, we went to Giza. Any actual location you talk about, learn about, or read about is worth a look-up on google earth. The kids love it. And, it is pretty neat to see the world from your livingroom.
I hope you find some helpful free, online homeschool resources. I will be adding more, so check back often!
